After 22 NFL seasons, Tom BradyThe reign of ‘The King’ has ended officially.

Following reports that surfaced hinting that the Super Bowl MVP would announce his retirement soon, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback, 44, confirmed the news in a lengthy statement posted on Feb. 1.

“I have always believed the sport of football is an ‘all-in’ proposition—if a 100% commitment isn’t there, you won’t succeed, and success is what I love so much about our game,” Tom shared in his Instagram post. I have been able to achieve my greatest potential by overcoming every day a mental, physical and emotional challenge. For the past 22 years, I have done my absolute best. “There are no shortcuts in the field of life or in my profession.”

“This is difficult, but here’s the thing,” he said. I am no longer going to take on that competitive responsibility. “I have enjoyed my NFL career and it is time for me to put my energy and focus on things that are more important.”
