As people in the 1880s always said: Boy, bye!

It turns out Gilded Age star Louisa Jacobson‘s jilted heroine Marian Brook won’t have to suffer silently at the opera next season. Her onetime fiancé Tom Raikes, played by Thomas Cocquerel, won’t be returning for season two of the HBO series.

After he had ghosted Marian on their wedding day, the lawyer was able to break Marian’s heart in season 1. When confronted by Marian, Tom explained that he couldn’t marry her since they’d be penniless, confirming that he was nothing more than a social climber as her aunt, Agnes Van Rhijn (Christine Baranski), had predicted.

And other GildedNews: 13 regular actors have been promoted to series regulars in the next season. The following socialites will be returning: Kelli O’Hara‘s Aurora Fane and Donna MurphyAs New York’s society leader, Mrs. Astor. There is hope that the Russell family of upstarts will continue to mix with New York’s older money.
