Susan Sarandon has apologized for her controversial comments about a NYPD officer’s funeral, following a backlash.
“I am deeply sorry for the Twitter meme I posted that featured a picture of Officer.” Jason RiveraSarandon, “A funeral” wrote on Feb. 4. “I was quick to react to the image without connecting it to an officer funeral, and now I understand how insensitive and disrespectful that decision was.”
It Monarch Star continued: “I deeply apologize to the Family of Officers Rivera [Wilbert] Mora for causing additional pain during their time of grieving.”
In her now-deleted tweet, Sarandon had shared a post from journalist Danny Haiphong that included a photo of thousands of police officers lined down Manhattan’s 5th Avenue in honor of Rivera, who was shot and killed while responding to a domestic dispute call. His caption to the picture was, “I’m telling my kids that this is fascism.”
