The key to diversity on television is more than just sticking people in a monochromatic world. Abbott ElementaryCreator recently spoke Entertainment Weekly, “but actually green-lighting the stories that naturally bring those people to the forefront.”

With her ABC sitcom, Quinta and the writers never set out to cast more people of color, adding, “We were worried about being funny.”

She explained that the stories they were looking to share with others was what drove them. Abbott were representative of communities across the country. “If there are more shows like these, we won’t need to continue having those corny discussions about, “Where is the diversity?”
