As many athletes chose their mental health over competition, the 2020 Tokyo Games put mental health at the forefront. Silver medalist Simone Biles became one of those Olympians when she decided to sit out the women’s gymnastics team finals. She admitted that she sometimes felt like the world was on her shoulders when she said this.

This decision led to a conversation about the stress athletes feel when competing at a global level.
