Broadwater, 38 years old, was released after serving 16 years of imprisonment on New Year’s Day 1999. Broadwater, who was convicted of sex offences, will now be released from prison. He was also added to the sex offender list after his sentence. His status on the list and his criminal record made it hard for him to make a living.
Outside the court, he said that “a lot of doors” had been shut in his face to find work.
Broadwater told CNN, “I did what I could do and that was just you know—creating work for myself doing landscaping, tree removal, hauling, clean-outs.”
In 1999, after his release from prison, Broadwater started seeing his now-wife, Elizabeth.
“She desired children. Broadwater said to reporters that she would not bring any children into the world due to this. Broadwater stated that they are now past this age. “We can’t have kids.”
He said Syracuse Post-Standard that Elizabeth believed in him, adding, “I told her I’d never stop fighting this case.”
