Bennett and Vaughan both agreed on the importance of celebrating their wedding day with an inclusive event that celebrated the LGBTQ+ community.

Bennett stated, “As we went through this process we realized that weddings are also about more than us.” It’s all about the whole community.

The couple encouraged guests to show their individuality through their choices of fashion at the event. Bennett said, “You don’t need to wear dresses or tuxes.” Anyone who wishes to wear a formal tuxedo, do it.

In memory of Bennett’s mom, Bennett requested that all guests wear white. White roses were her favourite flower and they included them in the floral arrangements.

Back in April 2021, Bennett and Vaughan told The Knot that they had decided to make their wedding “about the LGBTQ+ community” after they had been denied their dream wedding location by the hotel’s owner because of their sexuality.

Bennett recalled that the owner told Bennett that he could not marry him because they were two men, and this was against his morals. It was an infuriating punch to the stomach. That moment was decisive. Our wedding was greater than we were. While it’s not our wedding, it doesn’t only concern us. It’s also about the LGBTQ+ communities. This wedding will be loudened intentionally.

Through their wedding ceremony, they shared with each other that they wanted to make it easier for future couples.

Bennett said, “I want the whole thing of our love, our wedding and our building our family to be a trailblazer for the LGBTQ+ community.” Everyone should realize they don’t have to do too much. They are enough. It’s my goal in life. It’s impossible to have too many. It’s always enough. Just being yourself is sufficient.
