Rachael called Matt immediately about Rachael’s photos. But Matt was always by her side right from the start. “I was familiar with the woman that I chose to marry. “Celebrity gossip, however sensitive it may be, would not shape my opinion of the woman,” he said. She said that her voice was “strained” and not steady.
He told her he was there to console her: “I assured him that I understood who she was.”
Matt said that the two were from different states and he was interested in having a personal conversation to talk about the photos.
In his book, he stated that Rachael needed to be seen in order for them to have the tough conversation. Rachael had been my last rose, and I hadn’t felt this nervous about seeing her since that moment. Even though we had come a long distance, Rachael still felt nervous to see me. However, this meeting was formal and made us feel uncomfortable.
Matt said that Matt and Rachael went to “middle of nowhere Georgia” for their conversation to be kept private. Rachael, Matt, and their relationship were never allowed together at the time. He said that he was able to see them together after the announcement on the show.
The former football player stated that she and her spent two days together and had the difficult conversation on day three. “I told her how I felt watching her play a part in my life that used to be so frustrating. She met me when my emotions were at their best.
Matt stated that Rachael had “leaned forward” and “dived in” to tell Matt her side.
He wrote that she had only been in sorority for a brief time and left her semester after the party. She didn’t understand the significance of the event when she attended it. It was just another college party in her head. She did not use her ignorance to excuse herself. Just a fact—she paired it with the facts of her remorse and regret. We both cried.
Following the difficult conversation, she apologized for all the hurt I had. “I forgave” her.
