If there is one thing that wealthy celebrities and the rest of the United States have in common, it’s our inability to live without using credit cards.

There is evidence of credit systems being present as far back as 1792 B.C., in what used to be Babylon and is now Iraq. For years after, merchants helped their clients and customers to finance their purchases, using credit.

While credit cards weren’t invented until the 1950s, there has been some version of them around for thousands of years.

And what are the most exclusive credit cards that celebs use today? From gold-plated trim to multi-million dollar limits, keep reading to find out about the most expensive and prestigious credit cards in celebrity pockets and purses this year.

The American Express Centurion Card

Better known as the luxurious and infamous “Black Card,” American Express’ Centurion Card is one that might have even inspired the whole prestigious card movement. Oprah Winfrey and Kim Kardashian are two celebrities who are fans of the card.

In order to qualify, you have to already own an American Express Platinum Card and need to have spent and paid off at least $250,000 on that card for the year prior. At that point, those who are invited only have to pay a one-time $7,500 fee and an annual membership fee of $2,500.

Some of the benefits that come along with the card are:

  • A travel agent
  • A concierge
  • Free nights at select hotels
  • Travel tickets for companions
  • Airport club and other club access

The card has a great points system. It does not, however, provide the ability to use a pin, so for travel to some countries, this could pose as an inconvenience.

The Centurion also allows people to purchase almost anything and will even help them find it. One cardholder, for example, wanted to buy the horse that Kevin Costner rode in “Dances With Wolves.” American Express found the horse in Mexico, shipped it to Europe, and of course, charged the cardholder.

The JP Morgan Chase Palladium Visa

Of of the more prestigious credit cards is this one. It’s made out of gold and palladium and each individual’s card comes with their name etched into it. Barak Obama has been seen using the card.

This card is only available to individuals with a high net worth and who typically have a relationship with JP Morgan’s wealth management brokerage.

There’s no spending limit and the card’s yearly membership cost is only $595.

The Bank of Dubai First Royale MasterCard

Maybe the most exclusive in the world, this credit card is plated in gold. Embedded in its center, it also has a .235-carat diamond. The annual fee is unknown. But it will buy you a “dedicated relationship manager” who will provide “royal lifestyle management.”

With no credit limit and zero restrictions, the possibilities are endless. Their mindset is that whatever the cardholder wants, they should be able to have. If they want to buy a yacht on vacation, that transaction should absolutely go through.

Clients have to have an extremely high net worth to even be invited to use the card.

The Stratus Rewards Visa

The Stratus is compared to the Black Card, though is not as lucrative. While it only invites high net worth members, the membership fee is only $1,500 per year.

Cardholders get many benefits for using this card, such as reward points for private jets or flights, luxury hotel upgrades, club entries, and other perks.

The Stratus also allows for friends or family to pool their points earned together to spend on an item or a trip.

The Coutts World Silk Card

In the U.K., Coutts is familiar and is known to be the bank of the Royal Family. Individuals must have at least $1 million in a Coutts account in order to carry the card.

This card boasts the usual awesome benefits, including a lot of VIP access and offers.

The Citigroup Chairman Card

This credit card has a pretty low annual fee of $500. It offers a $300,000 limit and is only open to individuals who are holders of Citigroup brokerage accounts.

Some of the perks that the Chairman has are:

  • Travel upgrades
  • Access to airport lounges
  • 24-hour concierge service
  • Exceptional rewards
  • No foreign currency transaction fees
  • Medical evacuation and transportation coverage

The Honorable Mentions

The Chase Sapphire Card is one of the best options for travelers with tons of rewards and things like $300 travel credit reimbursement each year back on your credit card.

The Ink Business Preferred Card is used by many extravagant business owners as you can earn 3x the points with every dollar spent.

If you’re one of those people who don’t like credit cards or even opening an account with a bank, check out some of the best prepaid debit cards you can get.

Even though not everyone uses the Black Card, many celebrities do use American Express cards, like Eva Longoria who uses the Green Card and Gisele Bundchen uses the Red Card.

The Most Exclusive Credit Cards Make You Invincible

With some of the most exclusive credit cards like the Centurion and the First Royale, the possibilities for the wealthy are endless. Those two cards, in particular, have no limits so that their users can buy anything they want when they want to.

In addition to making purchases easier, credit cards also provide an excellent way to build one’s credit. Making payments on time and paying off lump amounts at a time is a great way to make future decisions, like purchasing property, easier.

Either way, try not to go beyond your means, especially with multiple cards at a time! Many of the benefits of credit cards are utilized to their fullest extent by being able to pay them off often.
