Broadway lost a legend
Stephen SondheimThe acclaimed composer/lyricist has been taken from us by his lawyer. F. Richard PappasAccording to The New York Times. According to reports, Sondheim died in Connecticut on Nov. 26, after spending Thanksgiving with his friends. Sondheim was 91 years of age.
Sondheim, a theater legend, wrote the lyrics and the music to beloved plays like Into the Woods And Sweeney Todd And authored lyrics for songs like GypsyAnd West Side StoryWhich Steven Spielberg has adapted into a new film due out in December.
Sondheim won eight Tony Awards for his lifetime’s efforts, including the 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award. He also received eight Grammy Awards and the Oscar for Best Original Song. “I didn’t think very highly about awards,” Sondheim stated during his 1971 Tony Award acceptance speech. “But I must admit it’s extremely nice to win one,” he added.
