The home where the, “King of Pop”, Michael Jackson lived for six months and where he died in one of the bedrooms, has been sold for $18.1 million dollars. Jackson had been renting the mansion for $100,000 a month from the owners Hubert Guez, owner of apparel company Ed Hardy, and his wife Roxanne Guez, according to public records. The buyer of the estate wasn’t readily known but sources close to the transaction have said the buyer was Steven Mayer, a senior managing director for the private investment firm Cerberus Capital.
The luxurious 17,000 square foot home has 13 bedrooms, 13 bathrooms and 12 fireplaces. The home was designed by well known architect Richard Landry, and has a theater, a wine cellar with a wine tasting room, an elevator, a spa with a gym, and a guest house with stained glass doors. The 1.3 acres of land the home sits on also contain lush gardens and a pool.
The home was built in 2002 by real-estate developer Mohamed Hadid. The Guez family bought the estate in 2004 for $18.5 million and had listed it two years ago for $29 million. They re-listed it this year for $23.9 million. According to the deals broker Mauricio Umansky, who represented both parties, “This house will ultimately become a legendary place in music history, much like where Elvis lived.”
Michael Jackson has been well known throughout over 40 years in the music industry, with a string of awards and for holding the title for “The Best Selling Record of All Time” his 1982 album Thriller. Jackson is also recognized by Guinness World Records as the most successful entertainer of all time. Michael Jackson’s unparalleled contributions to music, dance, and fashion along with his well publicized personal life, had made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades.
On June 25, 2009 Michael Jackson died in bed at this Holmby Hills mansion after his personal physician Conrad Murray tried to resuscitate him. Murray was later found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for his role in providing and administering the drugs that Jackson died from and he was sentenced to the maximum sentence of four years in prison.
