Girl Scouts honors one of its own.
The youth group announced on May 31 that they had posthumously given the 10-year-old award Amerie Jo Garza—who joined the group in December—with the Bronze Cross after she was one of 21 people who were shot and killed at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, on May 24.
In a statement, the Girl Scouts explained that “The Bronze Cross” is given to Girl Scouts who have saved or attempted to save a life. Twitter. Amerie saved the lives of her teachers and classmates on May 24th, by doing all that she could. Amerie’s council was proud to give the Bronze Cross to her family. Girl Scouts will pay tribute today at her funeral with a Presentation Of Colors.
They added: “We will keep her story with and ensure that her courage will continue for generations.”
