The mansion that once belonged to Gianni Versace, where the designer was gunned down, is listed for $100 million. The Casa Casuarina, was originally listed last june for $125 million but got a price cut last November.
The current owner Peter Loftin, who is often referred to as a “telecom mogul” says he has received several offers for the 23,000 square foot mansion but obviously none have met his desired price. Loftin bought the estate in 2000 for $19 million, so he is aiming for a substantial return on his investment.
The mansion was originally built in 1930 by Alden Freeman, heir to a large portion of the Standard Oil fortune. Today the mansions decor reflects Versace’s unique tastes, including the 54 foot mosaic tiled pool lined with 24-karat gold, ornate sculptures and tapestries, of course there is the standard marble toilet with gold seat and Versace’s gold Medusa head logo all throughout the home.
The mansion was converted into an exclusive, luxury hotel and club after the fashion designer’s murder. The home features ten bedrooms and 11 bathrooms and a twelve car garage.
It is said that Gianni Versace bought the house in 1992 for $10 million after walking by it once and falling in love with it. Versace spent an additional $33 million upgrading, restoring and remodeling the mansion. The estate was Versace’s main home until his tragic murder, at it’s front door, in 1997.

Versace was shot dead by Andrew Cunanan on July 15, 1997, on the steps of the Miami Beach mansion while he was returning from his morning walk. The motive is still unclear to this day because investigators could find no connection or motive for the crime. Cunanan killed himself eight days later with the gun he used to kill Versace.
