
We have another Olympics!
After a whopping 109 medal events, the 2022 Winter Olympic Games came to an end with a dazzling Closing Ceremony on Sunday, Feb. 20, at Beijing’s National Stadium, a.k.a the “Bird’s Nest.”
The Olympics were a historic event that saw history made several times in the last two weeks. Elana Meyers TaylorThe bronze medal in two-woman Bobsleigh was won by her, her fifth overall medal. This made her the most decorated Black Olympic athlete and most decorated Olympic female bobsledder. Following her February 4th injury, which resulted in COVID-19 treatment, she served as Team USA’s flagbearer for the Closing Ceremony.
In addition to the parade of athletes and flags representing all participating countries, the Closing Ceremony featured an elaborate fireworks display and a performance of the Olympic anthem from the Malanhua’er Children’s Choir.
After the ceremony, the Olympic flag was handed to Cortina di Ampezzo and Milan mayors. Italy will host the 2026 Winter Olympics. Pop singer Malika Ayane and violinist Giovanni Andrea ZanonThe nation’s national anthem was performed then.
