After deciding what type of discipline would be applied to the actor following the March 27th performance, Academy Board members met on April 8. In a statement obtained by CelebHomes News, Academy President David RubinThe CEO Dawn HudsonIt was also stated, in part: “During the telecast, it wasn’t adequate to address the situation in room. We regret this. This was an opportunity for us to set an example for our guests, viewers and our Academy family around the world, and we fell short—unprepared for the unprecedented.”
The statement added, “This is an action that we took today to respond to Will Smith’s behaviour. It’s a step towards the larger goal of safeguarding the safety and trusting the Academy,” We also hope that this will be a period of healing for everyone impacted.
