We regret this. This was an opportunity for us to set an example for our guests, viewers and our Academy family around the world, and we fell short—unprepared for the unprecedented.”

The statement added, “This is an action that we took today to respond to Will Smith’s behaviour. It’s a step towards the larger goal of safeguarding the safety and trusting the Academy,” We also hope that this will be a period of healing for everyone impacted.
