The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced the nominees for the 2022 induction in February. Parton is not alone. According to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s website, an artist or band must have released their “first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination” to be an eligible contender.
The website states that nominee ballots are submitted to an international committee of over 1,000 musicians, historians and music industry members. It is important to consider factors like an artist’s artistic influence on other artists and their career length, depth, and body of work. Innovation and superiority in style or technique are also taken into consideration.
Voting for artists they believe should be inducted is possible through fans. According to the website, the five most popular artists will make up the “fan ballot”, which will then be added together with all other ballots that were used during the selection process. The inductees for 2022 will be announced May.
