Members of Congress gathered on social media to express condolences following the news of her death.
My heart breaks for Dean and the Walorski families and all those who loved and knew my friend Jackie,” Indiana representative Jim Banks wrote in a statement. “Jackie was a true public servant—selfless, humble, and compassionate…Everything Jackie did was to serve others. She served before Congress in Indiana Statehouse, and with her husband she was missionary in Romania. There they gave food to the poor and provided medical care.
He added, “From my very first day at Congress Jackie has shown me kindness and grace.” Her heart was pure gold and she will be missed.
Added Wyoming representative Liz Cheney, “Heartbroken to hear the terrible news about Jackie Walorski, Zachary Potts and Emma Thompson. Jackie is the most dedicated and efficient member of Congress. She was a great friend and I am proud of her.”
U.S. Secretary for Transportation Pete Buttigieg also shared he was “shocked and saddened” to hear of Walorski’s death.
His words: “My thoughts, prayers and condolences are with her and all the victims of this horrible crash.” wrote. “Despite being from quite different political places, she was open to working together wherever there was common ground. She was fair and straight-forward, was dedicated to her work, and deeply cared about the welfare of her constituents.
Tennessee representative Chuck Fleischmann remembered Walorski as more than just his co-worker. He said, “Our offices are neighbors in DC.” sharedShe said, “and it was an honor to call her my best friend.”
