Taylor Swift is not only known for her hit songs, but she is also known as a pretty savvy retail investor. Her latest purchase is a beautiful Cape Cod mansion in Waverly, Rhode Island for $17 million a discount to the $20 million asking price and even a larger discount from the $24 million the home was listed for in 2011.

The oceanfront estate sits on 5 acres, with 700 feet of beachfront on top of the highest point in Watch Hill. The home gives Swift a spectacular view of the ocean, all the way to Montauk Point. Watch Hill is a wealthy New England coastal town but not necessarily a typical destination for A-listers to vacation, which could be the reason Swift snapped it up. The quiet neighborhood and guarded estate will give the pop star some much needed privacy.

The 11,000 square foot home, built in 1930, has seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms. A circular sweeping drive takes you to the pillared front door.

The release of Swift’s debut album, at the age of seventeen, in 2006 established her as a country music star, “Our Song”, her third single, made her the youngest person to single-handedly write and perform a number one song on the country chart. She received a Best New Artist nomination at the 2008 Grammy Awards.

Taylor Swift is known for her narrative songs about her experiences as a teenager and young adult. As a songwriter, she has been honored by the Nashville Songwriters Association and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Swift’s other achievements include seven Grammy Awards, eleven American Music Awards, seven Country Music Association Awards and six Academy of Country Music Awards. She has sold over 26 million albums and 75 million digital downloads worldwide.

In addition to her music career, Swift has appeared as an actress in the crime drama CSI (2009), the comedy Valentine’s Day (2010) and the animated film The Lorax (2012).
