The Presidential Medal of Freedom was presented to the Olympic Champion. Joe Biden, President July 7. Simone was already a legend as the American gymnast with the highest medal count, but the 25-year-old has just become the youngest ever to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Simone reflected on the milestone and noted it was a “huge honor” to achieve so young.
“It’s kind of scary because it is the best award you can receive for your whole life so now it’s kind of scary like, ‘Oh, what do I do now?’ She said that it was a great honor. I’m thrilled to be there, especially with my family and my agents [and]All the other winners. It was an amazing morning.
According to the White House Simone received the Nation’s highest civilian honour among 16 others for her historical achievements in gymnastics and her advocacy for mental safety and health for athletes, foster children, and victims of sexual abuse.
