He has now apologized to the public for making controversial remarks regarding the film. Dog Power on Marc Maron‘s WTF podcast last month.

“I told the WTF podcaster that I thought Jane Campion was a brilliant director, and I want to apologize to the cast of The Power of the Dog, brilliant actors all,” he said April 10 during DeadlineThe Contenders TV Event. “And in particular Benedict Cumberbatch. Sorry, I cannot say more. Yes, I am.”

In his a mea culpa, Elliot admitted he wasn’t “very articulate” in sharing his thoughts on the Western and feels “terrible” about how his comments were received, particularly with the gay community.

He said, “I made some mistakes that caused hurt and that makes me feel awful.” My entire career, the gay community has been an incredible support system. This includes my whole career from the moment I started here. All levels and all job descriptions are friends.
