Olympic champion in swimming Michael KlimHe is open about recent medical issues.
The former athlete, who is now a blogger, revealed in a blog that he had been diagnosed two years ago with chronic inflammatory demyelinating neuropathy, an autoimmune condition. This neurological disorder affects the nerves of the body, particularly the area around the arms, legs and feet.
Klim admitted that although he has “always been an outspoken advocate” of a healthy work-life balance, he previously “neglected my health and wasn’t honest with myself about the signs and symptoms my body was telling me.”
“I have had chronic ankle problems since I was a child and also degenerative back conditions for a while,” he explained. It started as a mild cramping or pain in the joints. But, over time it became more severe.
