Chock and Bates are currently competing in their third Olympics. Chock and Bates ranked ninth at the 2018 PyeongChang Games, while they were ranked eighth at 2014 Sochi Games.
Chock and Bates were reunited in 2011. They have won 3 national titles and 3 World Championship medals.
They are partners on and off the ice. It wasn’t love at first glance. It was actually five years later that things began to take a romantic twist. Bates said that it took five years for things to turn romantic. Olympics.com, “You know, eventually I was just like…’I love you. It’s obvious that I feel for you. “I would like to be more than just a pair of skating partners.”
Chock skated with an earlier team. Greg ZuerleinBetween 2006-11. U.S. According to Figure Skating’s fan zone, the team won the 2009 World Junior and U.S. Final titles. They won the Junior Grand Prix Final and Junior Grand Prix Final titles, and twice received U.S. bronze medals as juniors and seniors.
Bates skated with Emily SamuelsonBetween 2000 and 2010. During their time together, Fan Zone reported, they won the 2008 World Junior Championship, took home the silver at the 2009 U.S. Championship and secured the bronze at the 2010 U.S. Championship. The team also participated in the 2010 Games in Vancouver where they finished in eleventh.
It was Chock’s and Bates’ partnership, however that turned out to be the endgame. Chock and Bates’ partnership proved to be the endgame, as she tweeted in December, “24 yrs skating, 10 yrs skating together, 5 yrs together as a couple, 2 Olympics, 1 forever partnership.”
Chock was born and raised in California. She moved to Michigan when she turned 5. Chock’s team bio states that she enjoys drawing, painting, and reading. Her designs include skating costumes.
Bates was born in Michigan. He started skating at the age of 4. His bio states that Bates enjoys golfing, reading and playing guitar.
