On July 26, Tony’s management shared a statement on Facebook announcing “the passing of our beloved Tony.” Later that day, however, the post was deleted and the actor’s son stated that his father is still living and was in hospice.

“He has family and friends surrounding him,” Christopher confirmed in a statement to NBC News that day. “He is in hospice, and in the final hours. “We are so grateful to you that you have kept us in your thoughts during this very difficult time.”

Before his passing, the Hollywood veteran had been candid about his recent health struggles. His agent informed him that he had been admitted to the hospital with pneumonia in August 2021.
