U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. has put his Dupont Circle townhouse on the market. Jackson, reportedly put the the Washington D.C. home up for sale just hours after he was released from the Mayo Clinic on September 7th where he was being treated for bipolar disorder and gastric complications.
Jackson and his wife, Sandi Jackson, have owned the 2,936 square foot former multi family home since 2008. The 4 bedroom, 4.5 bath Victorian townhouse includes five fireplaces, a large gourmet kitchen, a sun room and a rooftop deck which includes a Jacuzzi. The home was built in 1921 and the Jackson’s have it listed for $2.5 million.
It isn’t the home’s listing that has all of Washington talking, its the events in Jackson’s life during this year that have people speculating on the reason behind the home being put on the market at this time.
In June, it was becoming obvious that something was wrong when Jackson went missing from his congressional duties which also included absence from votes on the House floor. After two months of speculation and talk it was revealed that Jackson was hospitalized in the Mayo Clinic for treatment of bipolar disorder and gastric complications.
It has been reported this month, that Jackson could be headed back to the Mayo Clinic for another prolonged stay. Jackson’s father the Rev. Jesse Jackson, has referred to his son’s recent visit to the clinic as a check up that could lead to further inpatient treatment. It is currently unknown whether Rep. Jackson will ever return to the Congress even though his name is still on the November ballot and a recent poll shows he has 58 percent of the vote in his heavily Democratic Chicago area district. Jackson’s opponent Anthony W. Williams has publicly urged Jackson “to campaign or resign. You can’t have it both ways.”
