Amber Heard is reflecting on her defeat in court.
After Johnny Depp won his defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife, Heard released an emotional statement expressing that she was “heartbroken” over the jury’s decision.
“The sadness I feel right now is unimaginable,” began the actress. I’m devastated that my ex-husband has a disproportionate amount of power, influence and control.
She was 36 years old and said that she is even more disappointed at what this verdict meant for her.
Heard said that it was a setback after her 2017 divorce from Depp. It sets back time to when women who spoke out and were publicly humiliated could be shamed. This reaffirms the notion that violence against women should be treated seriously.
Heard stated that she believes that Depp’s attorneys won their case by “convincing the jury to overlook the key issue of Freedom of Speech and ignore evidence that was so conclusive that we won in the U.K..” (He lost a 2020 libel case against The SunHeard was called a “wifebeater” in an article, and he claimed that Heard had been assaulted. He denied this.
