Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi have purchased a 13 acre estate in Montecito, California that was originally listed for $26.5 million, however the price the couple paid isn’t readily available.
The 10,500 square foot two story villa was built in the late 1920s from stone that was quarried locally. Boasting an 800 square foot living room the mansion also includes a formal dining room, a library/media room, a state-of-the-art gourmet kitchen with adjacent breakfast room which opens onto the gardens. There is a master bedroom and bathroom suite along with a second bedroom suite, both are located downstairs and come with sitting rooms and under-floor heating, and are included in the five bedroom and seven bathroom arrangement.
The grounds include a swimming pool and even a roman column, dating back to 200 B.C., stands in the garden.
Ellen DeGeneres’ career spans a wide variety of venues, including stand-up comedy, television host and actress. However, Degeneres is best known for her daytime television talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show which first aired in September 2003. Even though there were several celebrity hosted talk shows that began that season, her show has consistently risen in the Nielsen ratings and received widespread critical praise. The show has won 25 Emmy Awards in the first three seasons on the air.
In 1997, Ellen DeGeneres made the bold decision to “come out” as a lesbian, and stood by that decision even though there was large media coverage that stunted her professional career and left her “mired in depression” following the announcement.
Ellen DeGeneres married Portia de Rossi on August 16, 2008, the couple has been together since 2004. The passage of Proposition 8 had cast doubt on the legal status of their marriage, but the California Supreme Court validated it because it occurred before November 4, 2008.
