Etienne MauriceThe filmmaker and founder WalkGood LA was sitting in the preferred area of the venue, watching Chappelle’s performance on May 3, when a man charged up and tackled the comedian. The attack happened at the end of Chappelle’s set just as he was about to bring out hip-hop duo Black Star for a surprise performance.
Maurice exclusive told CelebHomes News that “it was overshadowed… by this random person in the audience who just attacked an one of the best comedians of all times.” He literally ran on the stage.
Maurice recalls that Chappelle “quickly rose” from the ground and the man raced towards the backstage, being followed by several people. Maurice was unsure if it was security or stage crew that caught up to the man, though he remembered the people onstage “going crazy.” According to Maurice, the whole incident took about five minutes.
