Broadwater was sentenced to 16 years imprisonment and released in 1998. Broadwater was released in 1998 and placed on New York City’s sex offenders registry.

Sebold said that she only wanted justice when she was 18 years old and that she did not want to “perpetuate injustice.” She added, “And certainly, not forever, irreparably alter the lives of young men by the same crime as mine.”
