Amber Heard is taking a social media break as she prepares to face off against her ex-husband Johnny Depp in court during a defamation trial, and is hoping they both eventually put the past behind them.

In rare Instagram statement, the 35-year old posted this Saturday, April 9th. AquamanActress wrote: “I will be offline for several weeks.” You may already know that I will be traveling to Virginia where I will face Johnny Depp, my ex-husband, in court.

A 2018 Washington Post Heard’s Op-ed was published 2 years after her divorce filing. Heard said that two years ago she had become a public figure for domestic abuse and felt the full strength of society’s hatred for those who stand up for their rights. In March 2019, Depp filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit over the article, which makes no mention of the actor.

Heard posted on Instagram that Johnny was suing her for an opinion piece I wrote in The Washington Post. In it, I described my experiences with violence and domestic abuse. His name was not used, but I did write about the costs women face for speaking up against male leaders. Although I still have to pay this price, hopefully I will be able to move on with Johnny once the case is over.
