The romantic comedy is very loosely based on the travels of real-life pirate Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby(), who decided to leave his family of aristocrats and pursue life on Revenge. HBO Max describes Stede as “Struggling to earn respect from his potentially mutinous crew,” and after an unfortunate encounter with Captain Blackbeard (played by Taika Waititi. To their surprise, the wildly different Stede and Blackbeard found more than friendship on the high seas… they found love. It’s up to them now to get through it.
