She released her latest album. Emails Cannot Be Sent on July 15, and one song in particular has fans talking. On the track “Because I Liked a Boy,” Carpenter sings about the judgement she faced over a relationship.
The Girl Meets WorldActress reflects about bonding with her man “over” Black Eyed Peas and complicated exes.” And while Carpenter says “it was all so innocent,” she suggests not everyone viewed it that way and passed judgment.
Carpenter sings, “Now I am a homewrecker. I’m the s–t.” Filling up semitrucks with death threats, I got it.”
Carpenter’s song reflects on how people make assumptions about the world.
She continues, “I’m hot topic on you tongue.” “I’m a rebound gettin’ ‘round/Stealin’ from the young/Tell us who we are/Guess, I don’t even have a choice/All because I like a boy.”
And Carpenter suggests it hasn’t been an easy time. “I’m not catastrophizing/Everything’s derailing,” she sings. “Was only trying to hold you near/While your heart was breaking/It wasn’t internet illusion/Just two children going through it/You claimed I’m too old for your first love/But, I’ll always remain your favorite.
She later added, “Fell so deeply in it/It all seemed so innocent.” “Dating guys with exes/No. It’s not something I recommend.”
