AMC+ today announced that it has acquired the new three-part psychological thriller Anne Boleyn, starring Jodie Turner-Smith in the title role. Drama that was groundbreaking because it featured the first Black actor to play the Tudor queen.
After the series ended in June 2021, the streamer will bring the show to American viewers. Jodie being cast as one of the most famous queens in history was an issue on social media this summer, when it aired originally on Channel 5 (Britain’s public broadcaster).
“As Black woman, it is easy to understand the feeling of being marginalized.” Jodie shared her personal experience with The New York Times in an interview. I thought it interesting to add the freshness of a Black Body telling this story.
