Director Greg Whiteley is giving a crash course in Cheer.
In a latest interview on the Actuality Life With Kate Casey Podcast, the documentarian broke down the various intricacies of cheerleading and revealed what drew his consideration to the tiny city of Corsicana, Texas.
To kick issues off, Greg delved into his introduction to Navarro and Monica Aldama, recalling how he was in the midst of filming Final Probability U when his crew observed the cheerleaders on the sidelines. “In an effort to do issues otherwise, we went and filmed certainly one of their practices,” he defined, “and it was surprisingly intense.”
After that, he started researching the highest faculty cheer groups and discovered about Navarro, at which level he scheduled a telephone name with Monica. 5 seconds into their dialog, Greg determined “that she’s who we would wish to observe,” and the primary season of Cheer premiered in 2020.
His instincts proved him proper and Cheer is now on its second season, having wowed audiences with its story of perseverance and energy.
