It Shahs Of Sunset star spoke about the importance of representation after the toy company introduced its first Barbie with behind-the-ear hearing aids on May 11. 

Gharachedaghi posted on Instagram, “I’m crying tears for happiness.” “I kept my hearing impairment a secret from the rest of the world up to the age 35 when I let the cameras in.” Shahs Of Sunset to film me getting my first hearing aids. Toys, dolls and people that I could openly talk about being hearing impaired would be a blessing. I did not have this growing up, so I’ve tried to make it happen for others. It’s okay to be disabled. Everyone has a disability and that is the harsh truth. Thanks Barbie!”

Barbie has added the doll to its latest Fashionistas doll collection, which it describes as the “most diverse and inclusive doll range on the market”. According to a press release, Mattel teamed up with educational audiologist and hearing loss advocate Dr. Jen Richardson to ensure that the hearing aids featured in the line were portrayed accurately.
