The Sandman is a hit—but that might not be enough.

Although it is the No. With over 127 million views between Aug. 8 and Aug. 14, it is the No.1 show on Netflix globally, so a sequel to this long-awaited series seems unlikely.

Why? “Because SandmanIt’s a very expensive show.” The Sandman creator Neil Gaiman explained on Twitter. Netflix will not release money without us performing incredibly well.

He said, “So, yes, we have been the best show in the country for the past two weeks.” This may not suffice.

It Mindy Kaling-produced Never Have I Ever was No. Season 2 was ranked No. 2, with more than 55 million hours of viewings during that time frame. It was followed by season 3 Locke & Key at No. 4, season four Stranger Things at No. 4, and the fourth season of Virgin River at No. 5.

The SandmanIt was viewed nearly 200,000,000 times in the first nine days after its August 5 release.
