The real estate dilemma of R&B superstar R. Kelly was finally put to rest earlier this year when J.P. Morgan Chase paid $950,000 for Kelly’s Olympia Fields mansion at an auction.

The award winning singer-songwriter and producer was handed a $2.9 million foreclosure suit in July 2011 because he had stopped making payments on the Olympia Fields, Ill. home. However, after trying to force a loan modification when the home’s appraised value dropped from $5.2 million to $3.8 million within a year, Kelly finally decided to give up on the estate.

Kelly built the dream house in 1997 which includes seven bedrooms and six bathrooms an indoor pool and theater room. Also sitting on the 3.7 acres of land is a four car garage and even a private lake.

R. Kelly is a Chicago native who has been referred to as the King of R&B for his singing, songwriting and record producing. Kelly began performing during the late 1980s and debuted in 1992 with the group Public Announcement. He is known for several major hits including “I Believe I Can Fly”, “If I Could Turn Back the Hands of Time” and Aaliyah’s 1994 debut album Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number.

The Recording Industry Association of America has recognized R. Kelly as one of the best selling music artists in the United States with 38.5 million albums sold as well as only the fifth black artist to crack the top 50 of the same list.

R. Kelly has also had his share of legal issues over the years from battery charges to disorderly conduct in the 1990s. However, in 2002 a case that would change the public’s opinion of Kelly came to light. In February of 2002, a video surfaced of Kelly allegedly engaging in sex with, and urinating on, an underage girl.

In June 2002, Kelly was indicted in Chicago on 21 counts of having sex with a minor, which was later reduced to soliciting a minor for child pornography, seven counts of videotaping the acts, and seven counts of producing child pornography. On June 13, 2008, a Chicago jury found Kelly not guilty on all counts.
